Black Druzy

I must admit that when I came across these stones, I nearly passed out, they are so gorgeous! I spent an entire day trying to capture their beauty in photographs, but failed: Maddeningly, my camera's micro lens picks up details not visible to the naked eye, and falls flat in terms of catching the rich flashing black and their overall drama. Trust me, these are much more stunning than the photos show:

Imagine tiny cubes of shiny, jet-black tumbling over one another, sparkling and flashing like stars in the night, and you might have a sense of how spectacular these pieces are.  Mined in Chihuahua, Mexico, they are real garnet: all natural color, undyed and untreated. Like any druzy, these are not meant for high-wear jewelry. All have flat backs. Click on photos to enlarge images.

Natural White Druzy

Large Pure White Druzy Pendant

This piece is very special. Perfect in form, an alabaster-white polished surface--ideally beveled-- frames a snowfield of tiny, sparkling, pure white druzy. Nothing else comes close to it.

36.5 x 21mm       GM 4079  $102.00

Smaller White Druzy

Natural White Quartz Druzy   Bali
This piece has a tinge of very light peach below the top left corner. 23 x 19 mm

GM 4042    $18.99

Black Druzy

There are two main types of black druzy: Black agate druzy and psilomelane druzy. Psilomelane druzy, with black crystals in a hematite-colored matrix, had been mined in New Mexico until a few years ago, when highly unstable matrix conditions forced the closure of the mine. Now psilomelane druzy is very rare and difficult to obtain.

A replacement for psilomelane druzy is black agate druzy. The agate is mined in South America, and emerges from the ground white or clear.  It is not technically dyed; rather, it receives an unusual treatment: The finished cabochons are soaked in a warm sugar syrup for 30 days, which turns them a bright orange. After this, they are dipped into sulfuric acid. The resulting chemical reaction gives them a permanent black color.

The black druzy cabs on this page are extremely high quality, perfectly cut and calibrated, with fine, uniform crystals. They will add a touch of elegance to any piece of jewelry, and would look spectacular set in gold.  Note: Only one of each item is available.

Natural White Druzy

These drusies are wonderful finds--everything is natural color. The Lavender Chalcedony expresses a color shift, looking more lavender in incandescent and halogen light, and slightly bluer in daylight. The quartz drusies are black and white.

Natural Speckled Druzy Pendant

This is a lovely piece, in its natural speckled state. It's a nicely formed teardrop with polished sides and back. 30 x 21 mm
GM 4009   $50.00

"Dalmatian" Druzy Butterfly

Someone very skilled cut this wonderful piece. The butterfly's soft white druzy wings are patterned with blue-grey splotches and a spray of black flecks. 28 x 21 x 6 mm thick
GM 4005  $62.50

"Wind Cloud" Natural Druzy

Call me a romantic, but I named these natural druzy pieces "Wind Cloud" because to me, they are the color of light clouds skimming in front of the sun on a windy day. They are somewhat translucent in that you can perceive a whisper of background color through them, which enables them to look very different against different-colored clothing. Very lovely, and somewhat mysterious.

Wind Cloud Druzy Teardrop Pendant, medium

27 x 16

GM 4039  $28.99

Wind Cloud Elongated Druzy Teardrop

This piece seems to change color under different lights, from grey, to bluish grey, to grey with a hint of mauve. 40 x 17mm

GM 4056  $48.00
