Heart of Stone Studio is proud to begin offering faceted gemstones. More and more customers are now adding faceted stones to their pieces, either to complement their cabochons or drusies, or as an accent piece in their design. Either way, faceted stones attract the eye and bring in the buyers. We are now proud to offer: Melee Diamonds ó Faceted Colored Gems ó Semi-Precious Cabochons ó Boulder Opals ó Synthetic Stones for PMC and Casting
Melee Diamonds are genuine diamonds that are small, usually less than a third of a carat. They are surpisingly affordable, yet add tremendous value to the price that you can command for a piece. These melee diamonds are very special--I purchased them from a highly reputable dealer in Belgium. In fact, you can't get diamonds like these from the usual American sources. The usual American suppliers who carry melee diamonds offer them in clarities of VS2 or I or I2. These diamonds are all much higher grades of clarity. And, these diamonds are colorless, with color grades of D,E. The usual melee diamonds sold in the States are color grades G-I, which are much darker. These diamonds may be small, but they have white-hot fire and sparkle. They are ideal cut, which is the technical term for excellent symmetrical cut and proportion. Because these diamonds are such top quality, their price is a little higher than what you might find for discount melee diamonds, but I guarantee you that they are worth it. In fact, I recommend against buying these if you're planning to set them with a lower-priced larger diamond--they are so bright they might make the bigger diamond look dark by comparison. Instead, I recommend them using them as accent diamonds--you won't need a lot of these; in fact, a single one will add a brilliant point of light to your piece. Important note: These diamonds are conflict free, that is, guaranteed to be purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict, in compliance with United Nations resolutions. Above is a photo showing how the various-sized diamonds that we offer compare to a 5mm round colored stone (in center). Actual diameter of each diamond in millimeters is listed below. You can click on the photo to get a better look. Any irregularities in the shape of the stones is a product of my poor photographic skills, not in the diamonds themselves. Please note: I have a limited supply of these on hand, although larger quantities can be backordered for you. Available quantities in stock are listed next to each stone. If you wish to order more than one stone, simply change the number in the quantity box, to a maximum equal to the number available. Melee Diamonds, VVS clarity (VVS clarity means "Very very slight" inclusions, hardly noticeable under 10X magnification) After a long period of unchanging price tags, melee diamond prices are headed up. So, before they become unaffordable, I've obtained some top-quality melee to offer to my discerning customers. These medium and larger stones have the brilliance of stars in a night sky, and are suitable for the finest jewelry designs. All are ideal-cut, colorless (D-E), from Antwerp. Guaranteed conflict-free. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Ever since the time I visited an exhibition of the great Rene Lalique's jewelry from the turn of the century, I've refused to work with opals---Despite their shimmering beauty, every last one of Lalique's opals was cracked. Boulder Opals, I think, are a lovely alternative because the opal areas are left in their natural matrix, which offers them protection. And, any seams or cracks that naturally occur fit right in with the character of the stone. This Boulder Opal comes from the Quilpie Mining Area, approx. 650 west of Brisbane in southwest Queensland, Australia. All the pendants are drilled laterally.

As gem-manufacturing technology improves, the market is exploding with synthetic gems. These are wonderful stones for PMC artists: Because of their heat-resistant properties, they are said to be able to withstand the heat of kiln-firing of precious metal clays (PMC), and can be cast in place as well (remember to allow for the metal's shrinkage). These also are great for use in stone-setting practice. However, I can't guarantee them 100% as they might be subject to darkening or a slight color change depending upon the level and extent of firing. I suggest that you purchase a couple extra and experiment with them first before using them in your final piece. I have posted how many of each type I currently have in stock, so you can easily order multiples by simply changing the number in the quantity box. I can quickly backorder more for you if you wish.

Laboratory-Grown Color Change Sapphire These were so pretty I couldn't pass them up, even though I only have these three right now. Their color change is more subtle than an Alexandrite but still very lovely: They are bright raspberry pink under incandescent light, purple with pink flashes under halogen, indigo purple-blue in outside shadows, and bright purple in sunlight. They have the same crystalline structure as genuine sapphires. Laboratory-grown
