Utah is not only a gorgeous state, it also produces some pretty spectacular gemstones, and in my opinion, Tiffany Stone is about the prettiest. I was lucky to get my pick of a really nice selection, with beautiful natural colors and patterns. The "crackled" faces of these stones add to the patterns and are very characteristic of the material. They don't affect the stone's structural integrity. Prices on this lovely stone have gone up dramatically in the last year, but these are well worth the price. All have polished backs. This is such a pretty stone, and the Keith Horst cuts are gorgeous. One look and you can immediately see its resemblance to its famous cousin, "crazy" Mexican Lace Agate. The natural lavender color is very rare and I only have these few to offer. Note: The color varies depending upon the light source: The lavender has a bluish cast in daylight; pinker under halogen. This gorgeous stone is a relative newcomer to the mineral scene: Its single source in Russia was discovered less than thirty years ago. The best charoite (pronounced char as in charcoal, oh- ite) specimens are chatoyant, which should dictate that it be placed on our chatoyants page. But the purples are so beautiful I decided to keep them on this page. Charoite may contain patches of black (Aegerine), yellowish orange (Tinaksite) and also translucent crystals (Microcline Feldspar). Hardness of this stone is 5. Those in the know claim that wearing Charoite promotes self-esteem, contentment, and inner peace. All stones have satin-finish back. Purples are bluer in daylight. Click on photos for a better look. Charoite Russia Another all-over chatoyant piece. 34 x 28mm PB167 $64.00
I'm thrilled to be able to present my most extensive selection of beautiful, rich-color Sugilite and the rare Richerite (just one-tenth of one percent of all Sugilite sports the rare blue coloring, called Richterite). These are shown in halogen light, which plays up the reds within the purples. In daylight these stones are more blue-violet. Either way, the colors and patterns are gorgeous. The healed cracks and fissures in some of them are very characteristic of this stone and have no negative effect on its structural integrity. However, in those stones where those fissures are more visible, I offered a discount. I have organized these according to shape to make your shopping easier. Click on photos to enlarge. Rectangles

This somewhat translucent, smoky-blue stone hails from Turkey. Like many blue chalcedonies, these stones look bluer in some lights, lavender/periwinkle in warm lights, and a touch greyer in others. The unusual surface, looking like frozen bubbles, is called "Botryoidal" (Bot-ree-oi'-dal) from the Greek: like a bunch of grapes. Although I was the first at the mine-owner's booth, these were all the pieces he had. Important note: This form of chalcedony is relatively rare. It has been cut fairly thinly, so none of the backs of these pieces is perfectly flat. Some have corners that curl up, or are wavy in profile. Thus, because of this uneveness, the backs are only partially polished and show some unpolished areas, although they won't catch on skin or clothing. If you're interested, feel free to order--You can always return them if they don't work for you. Botryoidal

I came across this lovely stone at the Tucson show. It is mined in South Africa, and is an aluminum borosilicate. It is primarily a dusky blue, although some pieces have a deeper blue as well. Although it looks soft, its hardness is 7, equal to quartz. For more information on Dumortierite, visit the Heart of Stone Studio Blog.

Lapis I just love these with their gorgeous blue color. Lapis comes from Afghanistan, and all of it is mined so deep in the mountains that it must be all carried out on the backs of donkeys! The warfare and strife in that country has made lapis more difficult to obtain, so these pieces are really special. They all have some areas of soft grey that add texture and depth to the pieces. And all are sprinkled through with extremely tiny sprinkles of pyrite, which make the stones glisten under halogen light. All of these stones average 3.5 to 4mm thick, with polished backs and nearly flat faces. Click on photos to see these magnificent pieces better. Lapis, Midnight Blue PB339 $90.00
