On This Page: Shells Tahitian Snow Agate Petoskey Stone Petrified Palmwood Pacific Beach Stone Pendants How many times have you admired the beauty, color, and form of seashells, but figured that they wouldn't work in your jewelry designs because they were either too big, too fragile, too difficult to work with? Well now, I'm happy to be able to offer you the option of using shells in your work. These are not just any seashells; they are specifically prepared for use as cabochons. Each shell piece here is cut, then mounted on a special mother-of-pearl backing, then sealed for permanence and durability (although I wouldn't suggest using it in heavy-wear items such as belt buckles). Some of these pieces are quite hefty-feeling, so I've included their thickness measurement for you. Because both the fronts and backs are attractive, they can be either bezel-set or wire-wrapped. Now you can add a bit of the beach to your designs! Don't forget you can click on the photos to see closeups of these. Mother of Pearl Cabochons Found in antique jewelry and as inlays in furniture, Mother of Pearl is making a comeback as a versatile volunteer when you as a designer are looking for something white, but more interesting than just white. In most lights, these look pure white with silvery shimmers, but under halogen, they reveal their soft rainbow highlights. All have flat, satin-finish backs. TT370 $28.00 Sorry, Sold!

Cameo Shell These are so sensuously beautiful that I'm sorry to only have three of them to offer. All have sparkling, highly polished fronts and polished mother-of-pearl backings to give them strength and thickness. Cameo Shell The creamy orange surface
undulates and looks like a liquid, inviting your touch. Back sits flat. 43 x

Abalone Drilled Pendants These pendants are just wonderful. All of their surfaces have a slight curve to them, (from the shell they were cut from), but they are set onto white mother-of-pearl backs. The iridescent colors and surface variations are all natural. Drilled and just waiting for you to design fabulous necklaces around them.

Lapidarist Donald K. Olson named this stone which he found on a trip to the Far East. It is related to Ocean Jasper, but unlike the usual ocean jasper, it has an agate's silicated glassiness, with ocean colors and flecks of white that can be perceived both on the surface and in its depths, because it is partially translucent! In some lights it is a mossy bluish green; in others, it is primarily teal. It really does conjure up the magic of snow falling over a warm ocean! Click on photos to see details. Tahitian Snow Agate Madagascar This is such a lovely piece...areas of translucency, including all along the right side, give it added depth and interest. 57 x 20.5mm TT289 $72.50 Sorry, Sold!

Michigan's official state stone is really calcified coral that thrived when the Upper Midwest was part of a shallow inland sea. The coral's name was Hexagonaria, and ancient silts and muds bestow its muted colors. It has a hardness of 4 to 5. These pieces all have a high polish and are wonderful examples of Petoskey. I have tried to show in the photos the color variations from stone to stone.

Fossil Tree Fern Picture a prehistoric jungle, wreathed in the mists of time. Giant tree ferns are munched contentedly by dinosaurs, while the dawn of the mammals is still eons in the future. The patterns in these marvelous stones are from the cross-sections of giant tree fern fossils. These are all that I currently have in stock. Fossil Tree Fern Brazil 40.5 x 29.5mm TT314 $46.00
One of my favorite things to do is walk along the beach and pick up interesting stones. On a whim, I decided to bring some home from my most recent trip and drill them for you. As they are gifts from the sea, I'm charging just the minimum--primarily for the time spent drilling and to replace the diamond drill bits I broke! Please note that the holes range from small (about 1.5mm) to large (around 2mm). So, if you don't have access to a drill press, you might want to try one of these. Backs are generally not as pretty as the fronts, but still smooth. If you like them, I can do more in the future. (Click on photo to supersize these).
