These stones are grouped together because they all have tropical origins, such as fossilized corals from ancient warm-water seas or petrified palm woods. It's fascinating to realize that many of these stones are organically-based gems--they were once part of living thing On this page: Fossilized Coral Starfish Drilled Starfish Pendants Fossilized Corals Mediterranean Red Twig Corals Coral Bead Strands Apple Coral
New: Carved Stone Starfish Drilled Pendants For the starfish lovers out there, we now can offer these hand-carved stone starfish. The details on these are so wonderful that I included photos taken from the side and back. Each starfish has a small hole drilled laterally through one of the arms, it so that it can hang on a wire.

Mediterranean (Italian) Red Twig Coral Picture me, hot, tired, tramping through the Tucson show for days, looking for affordable red coral, and just about giving up, when I literally stumble across a booth manned by three charming young people from Italy. Their father had been processing coral from the depths of the Mediterranean off the coast of Sardinia for the past forty years, and they had only recently begun marketing their wares in the States. This is breathtakingly beautiful red twig coral, all natural in color, with really wonderful, precise cuts. The daughter of the family personally picked the best colors out for me. Note: For most of these, two pair are available. If you wish to order two pair, just go to final checkout page, change the number in the quantity box, and click the aqua button saying "Update Quantity."

The two little Chinese ladies who sold me these strands at the Tucson Gem Show were adamant that these were natural, undyed coral. I believe that this coral is natural--if you closely, you can see the growth rings on some of the beads and tiny natural inclusions on others--but I'm not 100% sure these weren't dyed. I checked them with a loupe and could find no dye stains around the drill holes or even inside the beads, but top-quality undyed strands of red Chinese coral were selling elsewhere for $3,000 per strand, wholesale, so it's likely that these corals did not start out life naturally red. However, I can tell you that close up they are really pretty, with wonderful color and a beautiful shine, and even dyed, they are well worth the price. If you are interested in multiples of one strand, please e-mail me. Note: The beads are simply strung on silk, not knotted. Click on photos to see details.
