These stones are grouped together because they all have tropical origins, such as fossilized corals from ancient warm-water seas or petrified palm woods. It's fascinating to realize that many of these stones are organically-based gems--they were once part of living thing

Carved Stone Sea Creatures Drilled Pendants

The depth and detailing on these beautiful hand-carved pieces are just wonderful. I've asked Doug to photograph them from both the front and the side so you can get a better appreciation of the workmanship that went into these.  The starfish have a small hole drilled laterally through one of the arms, so that they can hang on a wire. The clamshells have a hole drilled vertically through the top so that you can thread a pin through and bend it into a bail or jump ring. These are shown slightly larger than life-size. All have a matte, as opposed to a highly-polished finish so as to look more realistic. Click on photos for a view of the details.

Red Coral  More Coming Soon!

Genuine, undyed red coral that doesn't cost the earth is hard to come by. That is, until the Denver Gem Show, when I stumbled across the booth of a charming gentleman, British as the day is long, who lives in Indonesia and would look perfect in khakis with a riding crop in one hand and a gimlet in the other. He brought these beautiful, natural-color red corals with wonderful, subtle patterns from his adopted home, and now I can offer them to you. Cheers!   All pieces have satin-polished backs.

Red Coral     Madura, Indonesia
16.4 mm round

TT344     $24.00

White Coral

Actually, this coral is more of a vanilla color, with swirls of caramel and chocolate. It hasn't been dyed; rather, it's the red coral above that has had the color removed. The patterns emerge more strongly in this color variation. These all range about 7mm thick or so, with polished backs.

Black Coral

Ordinarily, I shy away from buying dyed stones if I can, but these were so pretty that I couldn't pass them up. They would match up well with Black Onyx, Black Druzy, and even White Agate Druzy. They average about 7.5mm thick and have softly-polished backs.

Fossilized Coral

This type of coral comes in a variety of colors, shapes and forms. So much coral out there on the market is disappointing; I have searched high and low and assembled a group of what I feel are the loveliest pieces with the prettiest patterns, just for you. The colored corals are considered more rare and valuable than the ones in tans and browns, but both have their individual appeal.  Click on photos to enlarge images. All pieces are polished both sides unless otherwise noted.
