Crystal Cove Silicate My friend Keith Horst let me name this translucent stone from China, a stone which he says is very rare and unusual. In fact, he has been able to find only one fist-sized chunk of rough, and he cut these beauties from that. To me, the name evokes those shallow-water coves on tropical islands, where you can walk along a beach with silky white sand and see small fishes darting through the aquamarine and glassy-green waters that lap gently against the shore. These stones are that exact bubble-bath aqua blue, and some have touches of green--all natural colors. These are just about the last of what I have on hand, and again, the supply is extremely limited.

Vista Jasper This fascinating stone hails from Oregon. Gorgeous natural blue-greens swirl through it, accentuated by chocolate browns, warm yellows, and occasional olive greens. Really wonderful colors, with excellent, substantial cuts.

W244 $50.00 Larimar Discovered in the Dominican Republic and named for the discover's daughter ("Lari-ssa") and the sea ("mar"), these stones are so valuable that they are often sold by the carat, like faceted stones. Despite its ethereal beauty, Larimar is extremely temperamental and difficult to cut. It is a very hard stone, but it's also very brittle, and during cutting it chips, spalls, and generally does its best to foil lapidary efforts. Also, the larger the piece, the more difficult it is to avoid having some matrix visible. Small areas of matrix are fine, but larger areas can affect the value of the piece, and those I am offering at great discounts. Please click on photos to enlarge to view details.

This amazing stone hails from Madagascar, and it makes you feel like you're sitting on a beach with your feet in the sand, watching the many colors of the surf. The natural color variations and little fissures and clefts are all part of this stone's appeal. Click on photos to enlarge. All have polished backs unless otherwise noted. Ocean Wave Jasper
Madagascar Under halogen light, this stone has a more aqua cast. 68.5 x 22mm W344 $60.00

Although it's hard to believe, this is Ocean Wave Jasper, too! It's from rough that I selected (and named) myself, in glassy shades of grey with touches of aqua and wet sand colors. An added bonus is that this type of Ocean Wave Jasper is silicated, so it comes to a high polish, sprinkled through with tiny sparkles. If you love the ocean in all its moods, this might remind you of thrilling times, walking on the beach during storms and watching the surf crash over the sand. Polished both sides.

Copper-based Gems: Chrysocolla, Malachite, Azurite If you picture the wonderful green patina that develops
on copper, you can get a sense of why beautiful aqua and green minerals are
found in copper mines. I have grouped these together because of their similar
coloring. All of the following stones are from Arizona
mines. Unpolished (but smooth and flat) backs. Please note the thicknesses on
these pieces--Many of them are puffy and pillow-like. Click on photos to enlarge. Chrysocolla and Malachite
