More Sculpture

Not all sculptures have to be large and expensive to be appreciated. This page features some more affordable pieces, perfect for gifts.

Malachite Boxes

These stunning jewel boxes are jewels in themselves. They are made from solid slabs of gemstone-quality malachite, mined in Zaire. In each box, the smooth polished exterior features the swirls of green that make this mineral so beloved. The removable lid is designed so it won't slide off the bottom of the box accidentally. In addition, the lid is perfectly aligned with the sides of the box, a superb example of exacting craftsmanship. The interior is as finely fitted as the exterior, with carefully mitered corners.

One of these boxes would be a marvelous gift for yourself or someone special. It looks great on a desk, or as a splash of classy color in a home decorating scheme. Malachite is revered not only for its beauty, but its color is said to link the spirit to the heart chakra, making it a good thing to have on hand in places where good communication and understanding are important. The wavy patterns of lines in the stone are said to resonate in a special way with people who work with numbers--scientists, mathematicians, business people. That may be fact or fiction, but my guess is those folks would have a great appreciation for the glorious precision in which those patterns were formed.

I have a variety of boxes available in two different sizes: (Note, as they are hand made out of different slabs of malachite, each box is unique.) Below are average measurements to help you decide between the large and medium-sized boxes:

Medium malachite box    MLB-10  $70.00     2-1/8"long  x  1-5/8"wide  x  1-1/8"high

Large malachite box   MLB-11  $90.00               3"long  x  1-7/8"wide  x   1-1/4"high

Rhodonite pigs

These two pigs, looking for all the world like a real sow with her piglet, would make a delightful addition to the collection of a pig fancier. Although tiny (2" and 1.5" long), these pink porkers pack a lot of personality into a small package. These are high-quality, miniature sculptures carved out of solid, gemstone quality rhodonite. The sow weighs over 2 oz., and the piglet weighs 3/4 of an ounce. Rhodonite cabochons of this color and quality are selling elsewhere on the web for $2 a carat! So your little pigs would be more than just a curiosity, they would have real value!

Rhodonite, with its rosy pink color shot through with black veins of manganese oxide, was first used in Russia in the late 18th century. A major source of this mineral is the Ural Mountains in Russia. Rhodonite is considered the "stone of love," perfect for working with the heart chakra. Though not usually considered a romantic symbol, these pigs will snuffle their way into your heart!
IJ-RD-031-2  $48.00 for both   Sorry, Sold!

Miniature stone frogs
These two sweet stone amphibians would be perfect additions to a frog collection. They're tiny enough to both find lots of room in the palm of your hand (see scale photo) but they have lots of personality. The black frog is carved from hematite, a heavy mineral with a metallic sheen. Hematite is often used by people to ground, calm, and focus themselves. The pink frog is carved from rhodonite, often called the romance or love stone. Rhodonite comes from the Greek Rhodon, or rose. It has been used in jewelry and ornament since the 18th century. New Age healers use it to activate the heart chakra. These two frogs would be a valuable and meaningful gift for your favorite frog fancier!
IJ-F1-RD-034    Reg. $40.00, Special Introductory Price: $29.99 for both!
