Peruvian Opal

Peruvian Opal

This Opal is the national stone of Peru, and with good reason: It is found only in the Andes mountains near San Patricio, Peru, and it's a stunner of a stone. These Peruvian Opals are translucent in a way that communicates a subtle shift of color within the stone, almost like looking into water that changes color with changing depths. In fact, jewelers often liken the colors to those of the Caribbean Sea--from pale sky blues to rich aquas and turquoise. These colors look even better in contrast with the golds, ochres, and browns of the matrix that either runs through them or surrounds them. These are memorable stones that will add a touch of class to any design.  Keep in mind, though, like any opal, these stones should be kept away from extreme heat, extreme dryness, or heavy wear.
